After fighting alongside Stonewall Jackson in the Civil War, A.T. Barclay and his business partners established the short-lived Rockbridge Stone and Lime Company on Barclay’s family farm just outside of Lexington. The land changed hands several times and was finally purchased by Brewster Ford, a professor at Virginia Military Institute who donated the property for use as an outdoor theater.
Theater at Lime Kiln’s signature production is Stonewall Country, a musical about the life and death of Stonewall Jackson. Lime Kiln also features music and plays that celebrate the heritage of the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Come experience the magic of this unique theater and concert venue built into the ruins of an old 19th century lime kiln and quarry.
